Every day, volunteers power the mission of Family Service Rochester. Volunteers showing up with compassion, generosity, and a deep commitment to helping others thrive. During National Volunteer Month in April, we pause to celebrate the incredible individuals who make our work possible.

This past year more than 1,000 volunteers-individuals, families, and groups gave of their time and talents to support our community. Because of them, it has been a truly impactful year of service, connection and care.
Across our programs, volunteers play a vital role in helping older adults remain independent and connected. Our Meals on Wheels drivers do more than deliver food, they deliver friendly smiles, safety checks, and meaningful moments of connection. Those who provide transportation ensure neighbors can get to medical appointments and essential services, while caregiving respite volunteers give family caregivers the chance to rest and recharge. From seasonal support like yard clean-up to light housekeeping, these acts of service help seniors continue living safely and comfortably in their own homes.

At the Family Resource Center, volunteers support families in hands-on, impactful ways such as packing diapers, organizing supplies, and helping ensure parents have what they need to care for their children. These efforts may seem simple, but they create real stability and relief for families navigating challenging times.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 as a time to recognize and celebrate volunteers across the country. At Family Service Rochester, we see every day what that commitment looks like in action. Our volunteers embody compassion for not only those they serve, but also toward the broader community.

To every volunteer who gives their time, energy, and heart: thank you. Your impact is immeasurable. Because of you, individuals feel seen, families feel supported, and our community grows stronger every day.
