Mike Christenson is a Rochester native who returned to the community after more than 20 years working as support staff for the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office. In 2022, Mike and his partner, Sandy Waldof, retired and moved back to Rochester to help care for Mike’s parents as their needs increased. Experiencing firsthand the support their family received inspired Mike to give back and “pay it forward” in gratitude.

Today, Mike volunteers with Meals on Wheels through Family Service Rochester, helps drive neighbors to medical appointments, and volunteers at Mayo Clinic. For Mike, volunteering is a meaningful way to support others, especially during challenging times, and a reminder that no effort, no matter how small, is insignificant.

Outside of volunteering, Mike and Sandy enjoy traveling and spending time with family. Recent highlights include riding the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff to Vancouver and celebrating Christmas in Palm Springs. They also enjoy photography, time with their two Manx cats, and staying active at 125Live.

Mike describes the best part of volunteering simply: it feels good to help, knowing even small acts of kindness can make a real difference.

Thank you, MIKE!
