Volunteer Spotlight: Melanie Crum
Melanie Crum is a dedicated volunteer and staff member at Family Service Rochester. Originally from Oregon, Melanie has called Rochester home for nearly 30 years. She lives with her husband, and their four children who have all graduated from high school. When she’s not working or volunteering, you’ll find her walking her two dogs, working in the yard, or staying active through running and workouts.
Melanie chooses to volunteer because she knows how vital it is to our community. “Many of the clients benefit from short visits, not to mention the food,” she says. “I hope to keep the clients well-nourished and ultimately staying in their residences as long as possible.”
Melanie enjoys the relationships she has made the most. She cherishes the moments when clients look forward to seeing her, sharing stories about their families, and just spending time together. “It’s fun to get to know the people we deliver to and hear their stories. I also enjoy trying to troubleshoot problems for them.”
Through her time volunteering, Melanie has gained a deeper awareness of the needs in our community. “It’s easy to get caught up in your own orbit and not fully realize the depth of need just down the street. FSR provides such critical help to our community.”
Thank you, Melanie, for your heart, your time, and your commitment to making a difference!
