Age Friendly Olmsted County (AFOC) got its start as an In the City for Good action team looking for ways to bring an older adult lens to the economic development and social justice conversations underway in Rochester. In 2023, AFOC began implementing a three-year action plan addressing age friendly community supports, aging in place readiness, and community engagement.

On February 8th, In the City for Good will welcome back AFOC to share what it accomplished in 2023 and its plans for 2024. The program is 6:30pm-8pm at the Christ United Methodist Church, 462 4th St SW, Rochester, MN.

AFOC will report on advocacy efforts to improve the sustainability of state funding for programs supporting aging in place; launch expanded caregiver support of respite services care; and new dementia care supports and services.

AFOC will also share its work with the state on digital connection and opportunity and its new partnerships with the city of Rochester using walk and park audits to further age friendly active transportation and parks. The group will discuss its work of the Rochester Area Housing Coalition and Housing Alliance on senior housing priorities.

Attendees will learn about AFOC 2024 plans for continuing the efforts of the last year and new initiatives related to age friendly businesses and universities.

The program will also include the launch of a new online resource guide to aging in Olmsted County in partnership with Rochester Local. AARP Minnesota will also present its local activities and plans for the coming year.
