Early Childhood Mental Health

From the moment they are born, your child’s brain develops rapidly. During their first five years they are learning a lifetime of skills about how to express themselves, manage their emotions, form safe relationships, and discover the world around them.

However, 1 in 5 children experience delays developing these social and emotional skills.

When this happens, their quickly growing brain means they are very receptive to early childhood mental health services that help them get back on track.

How can you tell if your child may benefit from mental health services? Here’s what to look for:

  • Are they having trouble managing their emotions?
  • Do they exhibit extremes of fear, anger, sadness, or clinginess?
  • Are they behaving in ways that are impulsive or unsafe?
  • Are they unable to calm down, even with the help of a caring adult?
  • Do they struggle with eating, sleeping, or toilet behaviors?
  • Do they have difficulty following rules and routines?

How do we work with you and your child?

First, over three sessions, we provide a thorough developmental assessment of your child’s mental health and needs. Then, working with you, we create a treatment plan.

For children ages birth to age 5, family therapy services are provided in your home. Individual therapy may also be appropriate with 3 – 5 year olds.

Your child’s care is coordinated with other providers such as daycare and preschool.
