Position exists to ensure children residing in out-of-home placements through child protective services can safely access interactions with their parents/family in an effort to support child well-being, safety and reunification with parents.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Gather and document information from the social worker, children, parents, relatives, foster parents, schools and other resources to develop parenting/family time plans. Engage in conversations that include schedule details, location, transportation, supervision level and safety plans.
2. Partner with social worker, family, foster parents and others to develop parenting/family time plans. Document observation notes and prepare written reports regarding progress on family time plan goals.
3. Supervise parenting/family time between parents/family members and their child(ren) in an office, home, or community setting. Maintain a safe environment during parenting/family interactions so children are physically and emotionally safe. In addition to supervision of interactions, provide parent coaching and, if necessary, intervene or redirect the parent or child when inappropriate behaviors are demonstrated.
4. Provide transportation of parents/family and children to parenting/family interactions.
5. Participate in group consultations and family meetings to coordinate parenting/family time plans.
6. Complete all documentation as directed.
Other duties and responsibilities:
1. Participate in team meetings and supervisory meetings as scheduled or directed.
2. Work a schedule that is responsive to client availability and needs, which may include evening and/or weekend hours.
3. Attend training seminars or conferences to increase knowledge and improve skill level
4. Other activities as directed by Program Supervisor.
No direct supervisory responsibility.
Training and Experience:
Two years post-high school education in human services or related field, or equivalent training and experience is required. Education and training in child development preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge in child development and family systems; child maltreatment/out-of- home placement and the impact on child development; and behavior management.
Skills to engage with children, parents, and extended family/support network, some of which may be unmotivated or unwilling; utilize critical thinking and problem solving to make effective decisions, taking the most appropriate course of action in the moment; prepare clear and concise written communication; employ strong organizational skills and prioritization of tasks; and de-escalate hostile situations.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations; to work within a team environment; effectively communicate with co-workers and family systems in person, over the phone, or virtually. Must possess computer literacy.
Must have a valid driver's license and dependable transportation to use for work purposes. Willingness and ability to work additional time if needed to meet client needs and deadlines.
Must be able to regularly talk, hear, sit, and perform keystrokes to enter data with reasonable speed to ensure work is completed. Requires physical ability to routinely handle normal office materials and tools, filing, lifting (children and items up to 40lbs), climbing stairs, reaching and ability to move throughout office areas, clients' private homes and community sites to complete work assignments.
Regular exposure to normal office and private home environments. Occasional exposure to home environments that include smoking and pets. Ability to drive in inclement weather when transporting adults and children.
