Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are a key part of Byron Neighbors Helping Neighbors. There are several ways to become involved as a volunteer on a regular or as needed basis. Volunteer opportunities are great for individuals, groups and families.

Lawn Mowing

Lawn Mowing

Volunteers provide lawn mowing services on a regular basis for seniors. This project can be done on an individual or team basis (sharing duties with another volunteer).

Snow Removal

Snow Removal

Volunteer use shovels, snow-blowers or plows (if you have one) to remove snow from driveways and sidewalks for seniors. This can be done as an individual or as part of a team.

Handyworker

Handyworker

Volunteers provide household maintenance tasks, including light carpentry, installation of grab bars, painting, changing batteries in smoke detectors, changing light bulbs. Volunteers are contacted on an as needed basis.

Seasonal Chores

Seasonal Chores

Volunteers provide help with seasonal chores such as leaf raking, window washing, changing storm windows/screens, shrub trimming, gardening. This is a great project for groups, families or individuals.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping

Volunteers complete household cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, laundry and mopping the floor for seniors. Volunteers needed both on an as needed basis and regularly scheduled.

Grocery Shopper

Grocery Shopper

Volunteers provide assistance in grocery shopping for seniors. This assistance may include completing the grocery shopping task on your own and delivering the groceries or accompanying during a grocery shopping trip. Volunteers needed both on an as needed basis and regularly scheduled.

Friendly Visiting

Friendly Visiting

Volunteers provide companionship to seniors through regularly scheduled, consistent visits. This services offers reassurance and support to a senior and their loved ones. Regularly scheduled availability is needed, with a minimum of a six month commitment.

Assurance Calls

Assurance Calls

Volunteers provide daily phone calls to seniors. These phone calls provide daily check-ins and companionship to a senior. Regularly scheduled availability is needed.

  • Download a volunteer application form (PDF)
  • Send your completed form to info@byronneighbors.org
  • Fill out our online application form
  • Complete a background check
  • Meet with program coordinator to discuss your interests and availability. (Orientation can also occur at this meeting).
  • Communicate with us! Ongoing communication with volunteers is vital. Not only for tracking hours, etc., but to ensure a positive experience for both our volunteers and those receiving services.
